Our Testimonials

From start to finish, working with Dan and the entire team at dRemodeling was a positive experience.  After much research of many contractors, I found dRemodeling on Angie's List.  I was very impressed with the large volume of positive ratings that they had on Angie's List.  We were looking for a contractor who was very experienced, capable, honest, flexible, trustworthy, reasonably priced, and one who could offer a full range of services and skills, including interior design.  dRemodeling was a perfect match for us.  Once I submitted an online request for information and an estimate, I received a very prompt response including an email and phone calls.  We set up an appointment and Dan came to our house on time and very prepared.  He was very thorough and patient with us and listened to all of our questions, comments and ideas, and answered all of our questions to our satisfaction.  Likewise, we were glad to hear his ideas and suggestions as well.  He clearly had a good understanding of construction and renovations as well as our needs and wants and he proceeded to work on a very detailed estimate which he provided to us within just a few days.  We had ample opportunity to ask questions and request any changes to the contract before signing and Dan was very helpful and easy to work with. Once the contract was signed, we began the process of the planning and design phase.  During this time, we worked with Dan and also their architects and designer.  This process was time consuming as we were renovating a large empty space (about 1,000 sq ft)  that would be divided up into several rooms and areas.  What was once a large empty and bare basement now consists of a TV/family room, custom built-in desk area with granite countertop and cork backsplash, game room, kitchenette area with granite countertop and glass tile backsplash, fitness room, a good-sized storage room and a large utility closet, a walk-in closet, and a reach-in closet and all new oak hardwood staircase.  Their approach to this planning and design phase is to make every possible effort to have all materials (including finish materials) selected and of course, to have every detail of the framing, electrical and plumbing decided as well, before beginning the construction phase.  Also, I should mention that we were rookies at renovating and had a definite need for guidance.  Dan and his architect/designer helped us to stay focused and organized throughout the planning process.   The architect/designer did meet with me at my house on one occasion and it was an extensive planning session.  After that visit, we communicated primarily via email.  She was a huge help and although I would have liked to have had more meetings in person with her, we managed to accomplish what we needed to in an efficient manner which helped cut some costs as well.  The architect/designer had both practical and creative suggestions to incorporate into our floorplan and design.  I think my favorite idea of hers was the custom bulit-in desk area to be used for crafts and general work space.  In our original floorplan this desk area was going to be a closet, but with her help we designed ample storage in other areas and now this desk is a family favorite space.   From the day we signed our contract until the day we began actual construction was longer than we originally anticipated.  However, there were numerous reasons for this, and I attributed that delay to both us and dRemodeling.  The bottom line was that we were not upset by the delay, and we were more concerned about "getting it right" than rushing to just "getting it done".  This was a large project that required a lot of planning and preparation on our end, plus we had a death in the family during this time which caused me to put this remodeling project on hold for a bit.  I think the permit process and scheduling may have played a role on dRemodeling's end.  But, once our construction began, the crew was consistently on site every day until completion.   One of my favorite TV shows is "Holmes on Homes" on HGTV.  Mike Holmes' motto is "Make it right.  Do it right the first time."  Well, Dan Dragomir and his team at dRemodeling do just that.  They also focus a great deal on customer satisfaction as well as approach every aspect of their work with a positive attitude.  The entire crew of workers was incredibly skilled and professional.  With the size and scope of our project, I think I probably met every single one of their employees, although a few of the guys were here more than others.  I never once got the impression that they were attempting to cut corners, and the quality of their craftsmanship was superior to any other we've seen.  (We are experienced homeowners, but new to renovating.)  At one point, we found ourselves wishing they could build an entire house for us because we appreciated the quality of their work so much.  It goes without saying that they were very respectful of our home and were a pleasure to have around. Dan and all of his team consistently involved us in the construction process to make sure that we were getting the end result that we wanted.  They seemed to "aim to please" at all times.  Also, we could choose finish materials from any vendor or merchant of our choice but on a couple of occasions we asked Dan for suggestions of where to shop for things (eg., granite & tile) and he gave us good ideas.  Dan was very generous to pass his contractor discounts on to us on more than one occasion.    Some of the more challenging tasks of our project included the construction of the custom desk and the replacement of the staircase.  I soon learned not to worry about the details of how they were going to accomplish these things.  Their carpenters are truly amazing at how they approach situations, design, build, and problem solve.  And, as far as I could tell, they all work together very well as a team.  They kept me informed and involved in the process and gave me every opportunity to have the job done to my satisfaction. Throughout this project, Dan was excellent about keeping in touch with us and following up on things that needed to be done next.  He was very good about keeping the project moving forward and staying on track, yet he was flexible too.  When it came to scheduling the final phase of the project, he was just as consistent as he was in the beginning and middle of the project. The total construction time for our project was longer than originally estimated, but we also added numerous change orders.  Dan was very flexible with us when we did request a change.  I suppose it's inevitable that even with diligent planning and preparation, one will still choose to make changes along the way.  Sometimes it's just impossible to know how something will look until you see it firsthand.  Now that our project is complete, we are loving our new living space.  We would definitely hire dRemodeling again!
