Bathroom Remodeling 101: It’s Amazing What the Right Tile Combo Can Do!

The visual gem we’re putting before you today is a bathroom that embodies the modern-transitional style to a tee. The bathroom remodel involved a total overhaul where we stripped the walls and flooring to reimagine the space as a warm, inviting room fit for modern-day royalty. Let's get into the nuts and bolts of it... after the jump!

The tiles can make or break the bathroom design

The first feature you take note of when entering this bathroom is the natural stone flooring and wall tile. That was the desired effect as our lead designer Devin conjured up an arresting interplay between these two surfaces, their grey and brown veins impressing a sense of movement on the eye. The other walls, half wainscot-clad, half pastel mauve, temper this rush, sitting in perfect, calming counterpoint to it.

Though you’d think it unorthodox, the chandelier, together with the pair of equally chic snowdrop-shaped lighting fixtures above the vanity, make for a necessary flourish. This offers a chic contrast with the otherwise linear and angular features that set the modern tone in the bathroom – putting the clients’ eclectic tastes front and center.

The number one trick to pulling off the modern-transitional bahtroom

There is a subtle, but fundamentally important, symmetry in the overall feel of the design - in the mosaic tile pattern lining the shower walls and reappearing underfoot, for instance. This is also evident in the matching chrome finish of the Grohe faucets, the shower and the claw feet supporting the tub. It lends a distinctive sense of a uniform aesthetic, while the vanity and bathtub, both unique in their own right, are cheekily disruptive.

With its Carrera Marble countertop and the two classic mirrors hanging above its two sinks, the zinc-colored vanity blends in nicely, while adding a soupcon of nobility to the warmth of the master bath. And Devin then doubles this nod to stately furniture with the standalone, claw-footed bathtub. Last but not least, the clear, frameless walk-in shower puts a modern stamp on the décor, and, we’d imagine, makes choosing between it and the tub quite a doozy of a decision in the mornings!

dRemodeling is a very professional company. They reply quickly, and provided a very complete and comprehensive estimate. They answered every question and concern. My wife viewed a completed kitchen in our neighborhood and the work was truly fabulous. We ended up not using them for our project, but intend to use their services for a different project
