Calming Modern Bath in Center City Philadelphia

Project Description

This bathroom originally had an underused tub that the clients were not interested to keep. With their schedule, the functionality of a larger shower was more suitable to them. In addition to this, the sink was located in the bedroom instead of the bathroom, which didn’t allow for the most functional use of the space. dRemodeling was brought in to help correct these concerns. We were enlarging an on-suite master bath which involves looking at the functionality both in the bathroom and the bedroom space. We still were not working with a huge space, so incorporating a gracious shower, vanity, and storage was a challenge.

The clients were interested in adding some unique features to the room as well, including a glass mosaic, wood-look ceramic tile, and stark white quartz countertops. I carried the wood-look ceramic tile from the bathroom floor, into the shower using a linear drain to accommodate the larger size tiles on the flooring, and up the rear wall of the shower. A tumbled glass accent was installed behind the shower bench in the shower as a feature, and which also subtly coordinated with the tone of the vanity. The rest of the shower walls were tiled in a non-standard size 4x12 subway tile in white to play off the wood tile planks, but not mimic them.

The cool pastel color palette was selected to feel calming and serene in addition to neutralizing the sunlight coming from the east facing window.
